save HERTSMERE - object to planning REF 25/1070/FUL

.Application for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) ) - Land opposite junction with Butterfly Lane and east of Watling Street Radlett - validated 18th July 2025.

25/1070/FUL  Application for a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). Construction and operation of a BESS and associated infrastructure  on land opposite junction with Butterfly Lane and east of Watling Street Radlett

The Proposed Development comprises the construction and operation of a BESS facility of up to 99.9 Megawatt with  44 containers and associated infrastructure  with an operational period of 45 years.

PLEASE OBJECT  TO THIS APPLICATION BY 14 AUGUST. The scheme is  inappropriate development in the Green Belt. This BESS is too near houses and schools with significant risks of fire and unacceptable noise levels.

Reasons to Object

1. This is not Grey Belt land and is inappropriate development on Green Belt land. No very special circumstances exist to approve the development.

2. This is not energy production, it is storage for electricity. It is not a renewable energy project and does not support any renewable energy project.

3.Fire hazard is very significant and this BESS is too near to houses and schools.

4. There is no natural water supply for firefighting and no certainty that any artificial supply would be enough particularly in the event of contagion which is common.

5. There will only be one roadway into the development which could hinder firefighters depending on wind direction. This is highly dangerous- the fire services guidance requires at least two roads.

6. There is a wildlife site immediately next to the site and a second wildlife site very near to the south west site boundary.

7. At a time when food security is more important than ever and with an increasing population the development will result in a loss of productive agricultural land.

8. Noise from a BESS is at a level that will impact people’s daily lives, their sleep and health and impact the large school population in the near vicinity.
